Jim Repine gave us advice since the start of Lago Verde Fly Fishing Lodge project until June 2009 when he passed away. We miss him. One day Jim just sent us an email saying “I'm on the team”. That day I felt we were doing something right because… well, because Jim is on the team now. There are some things in life that can’t be explained as anything you write would be less than the simple living fact.
Jim was a Master of the Art, a man deeply carved by the woods, the water, the solitude, the cold morning air, and the talking with friends around the fire at night. 60 years fly fishing around the world could be enough to introduce him, but in fact it is just the start, as Jim learned during those years to listen and understand the words of the old traditions in the art. And that is something you don ’t need anyone to tell you, you just know it being with him. We are honored to have had this man with us.
Raúl San Martín has been fishing with us and supporting the lodge since it was planned. Raúl is a Master of the Art and a man of the National Park as he started fly fishing in its waters almost 50 years ago, being his first Master Erik Gornik, an Austria artist and fly fishermen who decided to live in the Park in the 60´s He is considered one of best fly-fishing guides of the world; and he is certainly the dean of fishing guides in Patagonia.
Raúl has been professionally guiding fly-fishermen for trout and dorado for more than thirty years in Argentina, Chile and New Mexico. And has fished USA and Canada waters. He is also a qualified casting instructor. Raúl official web site is www.magicpatagonia.com
Andrés has been guiding since 1983, when he started as Raúl auxiliary man in the National Patk waters. Since then he has been guiding in Argentina as an independent guide and for many local lodges and outfitters, in USA (Almont - Colorado USA) and in Ireland (Connemara).
Andrés is also a casting instructor trained by Mel Krieger and Hans Rudi Hebeisen (Switzerland). Andrés is an excellent guide and fishing companion but also a site guide for the Natural Park wildlife.

If you plan to bring a single rod, a 9 foot for
a 6 weight line should be your choice as it suits most fishing
conditions.
A good reel with an extra spool to hold a weight
forward floating line and a weight forward or shooting taper
sinking line is also required.
If you are a dry fly lover, then you may add a 8
foot 4/5 weight rod for the small streams. On the other
hand, if you like streamer fishing you may
prefer to have a 7 or 8 weight rod to cast easily the larger
streamers.
Leaders 9/12 ft. tippets 3x to 5x.
Do not forget the flies! Dries in size 10 to 16 as
the Adams, Wulffs,
Goddard Caddies, Humpy, Irresistable, Grasshoppers, should
be in
your box. Nymphs in sizes from 6 to 14 as Stonefly, Prince,
Hare´s Ear, Montana should also be with you.
• Streamers? Bring in sizes from 4 to 10 Olive Green and
Black Buggers, Matukas, Muddlers.
Our Flyfishing Guides will provide some local patterns also, but
you shall
also try with your favorites.
If you are coming in early or late season bring
a neoprene wader.
For summer time (January and February) you may have lightweight
breathable waders. Felt soled wading boots are also important.
ARGENTINA IS FREE OF WHIRLING DISEASE,
SO PLEASE BRING NEW WADERS OR DISINFECT YOURS
Our flyfishing programs include transfer in adequate and comfortable
vehicles, to and from Esquel airport (2-hour drive) or Bariloche
airport (4 hours).
We will use inflatable rafts, rigged with
rowing frame, for some of the rivers (Rivadavia, Chubut,
Carrileufú), motor boats for small lakes and some
rivers like the Futaleufú.
On the big waters of Los Alerces National
Park we use larger boats with powerful engines fully equipped for safety and comfort.
Dry bags will be provided when the program
includes an overnight camp as well as all the necessary
equipment.
No personal fishing or wading equipment is
provided but in the case of loss or accidental damage, we
can supply the needs..
Starting at the resort in Lago Verde, either by boat or
vehicle, most of our fishing destinations are reached within
an hour; our head guide will meet you after breakfast, inform
you about the kind of fishing, wading, etc., for that day
and all questions will be answered.
At lunch time, guides will set up comfortable camp chairs
and tables, also if necessary we will provide shelter for
rain, sun or wind while food and drinks are served.
After an intensive day on the river; lake or spring creek;
and back in the lodge; drinks and appetizers will be waiting
for you before dinner.
Out of Los Alerces National Park and surrounding Esquel,
a typical small Patagonia town, there are excellent fly
fishing rivers running in a different environment than such
of the park. To fish these rivers the best is to be in Esquel as all
of them are within less than 1 hr drive from the town, so
we have designed an All Inclusive Program based in Cumbres Blancas which is a charming
boutique hotel and the best in Esquel.
So if you have some additional time we would suggest you
to spend two or three days at Cumbres Blancas and fish the
rivers described below with our guide for the Esquel region, Sebastían Ferrer ("Sebas").
Rates
and services included in the program are the
same listed below for Lago Verde Wilderness Resort. Consequently
you can decide where and how many days you would prefer to
stay at Lago Verde (to fish the National Park) and/or at Cumbres
Blancas (to fish the Esquel Area).
